Stress Less PO

Stress Less PO is developing a tailor-made programme for stress and anxiety prevention at Leiden University to provide children with the tools they need to recognise anxiety and stress and learn to deal with them in a positive way.

Stress Less PO

Background

Prolonged or intense anxiety and stress can have a significant impact on a child's well-being and school performance. At Leiden University, we are currently developing a tailor-made programme for stress and anxiety prevention to provide children with the tools they need to recognise anxiety and stress and learn to deal with it in a positive way. We are seeking the active participation of pupils, teachers and other experts to help us further develop this programme.

Purpose of the Project

Stress and anxiety are common problems that can hinder children's learning and development. Participating schools can benefit by promoting a positive and supportive environment where pupils learn to understand and manage these emotions.

Benefits for Schools and Pupils

This programme offers multiple benefits for both schools and pupils. By helping children recognise stress and anxiety and teaching them tools to cope with these emotions, we expect this to benefit their overall mental health and resilience. In addition, schools gain access to scientifically based materials and activities tailored to the development of primary school children.

How the Programme Works

The projects consists of two different phases:

  1. Take part in the focus groups
    • Pupils, teachers and other experts (e.g. policymakers, scientists, clinicians) can participate in a focus group to provide insights and feedback. These contributions help to tailor the programme to the specific needs of primary school children.
  2. Take part in the pilot programme
    • Schools can register to participate in the adapted programme. A trainer will deliver the programme to the class free of charge. This allows pupils and teachers to become familiar with the programme and gives us better insight into it. As a result, we can continue to refine the programme.
    • The sessions are interactive and adapted to the developmental needs of children, making them both educational and enjoyable.

Want to participate?

We invite schools, teachers and experts to contribute to this initiative. By participating, you can:

  • Assist in designing a programme that responds to the challenges pupils face in practice.
  • Gain early access to resources and strategies for dealing with stress and anxiety among pupils.
