DR. MARIEKE BOS

Head of Education

Short resume

Marieke works as an associate professor in the Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology at the Insit. Psychology at Leiden University. Her research focuses on understanding neurobiological mechanisms that play a role in the emergence and maintenance of mental problems during adolescence. To better understand this major issue, she uses a variety of different methods and techniques, including brain scans (MRI) and hormones (puberty hormones such as estradiol and testosterone).

One of the research questions she plans to answer in the coming term is why anxiety problems during adolescence are more common in girls than in boys. In this research, she focuses specifically on the role of pubertal hormones and how anxiety is learned and extinguished.
